Ambulatory - Traditional service
Matamata Veterinary Services prides itself on the delivery of a prompt, experienced and professional service. Our focus is ensuring you are provided with this when you need it, not when we can make it. We believe our level of service sets us apart from competitors.
Part of our culture is to also involve the collective experience of our farm services team to probe further into problems, ensuring the solution is drawn from the collective knowledge and experience of the team.
There has been both emphasis and resources allocated to the farm team to ensure Veterinarians are skilled and able to assist clients with feed budgeting and dietary ration formulation.
The increasing value of land in the Matamata-Piako region has driven more farmers to include a variety of supplementary feeds to improve production per hectare.
Increased desire of our local farmers to feed a more Mixed Ration, has uncovered problems in several situations where a sound knowledge of ration formulation and nutrition is required.
MVS has always had significant focus on solving mastitis problems. Veterinarians are able to visit farms and sheds during milking, identify problems and put a plan in place to rectify the problem.
We have our own experienced milking machine tester (Murray Eddington) and are also able to culture milk samples in-house, we have recently invested in a DeLaval Individual Somatic Cell Counter.
MVS has two Board Certified Specialist Veterinarians in the field of reproduction with special interest in bovine reproduction. This ensures all procedures and protocols designed for the treatment of reproductive problems are based on the latest scientific information.
One of these specialists and MVS director - Dave Hanlon - has also actively driven trial work in this area.
For the past 10 years MVS has focussed on developing skills and expertise to assist the increasing number of commercial dairy goat farms in our area.
The recent increase in alpaca farming endevours locally has provided an additional area of focus. We currently provide routine and emergency care to local farms which to date has included successful, life-saving surgeries.
As farms get bigger and more reliance falls on farm staff to get the job done, training becomes very important. MVS provides both formal 'classroom' type training modules such as spring first-aid programs run in July, and more informal on-farm training at the request of our clients. We can tailor the on-farm training to suit your specific system and associated problems.
Over the past several years we have developed a program that allows clients to discuss animal health expenditure and also benchmark potential problem areas.
This program has proven useful in identifying areas where expenditure can be more effectively allocated for best return.
MVS runs an animal health focused farm retail store. We offer a full range of quality products at competitive prices. These products are backed by the advice of the trained retail staff.
