Anaesthesiology

Anaesthesia is a procedure that carries some risk. However with modern techniques, skilled and experienced anaesthetists, quality equipment, drugs and monitoring the risk today is minimal.

Pre Anaesthetic Examination

  • Thorough physical Exam
  • Urine and Blood Tests/Cultures in at risk candidates

Drugs
MVS Small Animals chooses to use the best and safest anaesthetic drugs available. Choices are not based on price.

Equipment
MVS Small Animals uses two independent Gaseous Anaesthetic Machines for Small Animal anaesthesia. Both of these machines are equipped with Isoflurane Vaporisers, a modern and safer veterinary alternative.
We have recently invested in a Humphreys ADE Circuit, which enables us to provide safer anaesthesia at lower flow rates, meaning less wastage and environmental contamination.

Monitoring
The best monitors are not machines but skilled and trained people. At MVS, they are monitoring equipment

supported by machines including a Pulse Oximeter (measures oxygen in the blood),

apnoea Monitors (checks breathing), High Definition Oscillometric (HDO) Blood Pressure recorder and

Electrocardiography (heart rate and rhythm).

Surgery

MVS has four Small Animal surgeons. The clinic is equipped with a wide range of both orthopaedic and soft tissue equipment and implants.

Desexing and other routine procedures are performed to the same standards as more complex procedures.
