Domestic Dispatch of Semen

‘Wet’ shippers (full with liquid nitrogen and therefore dangerous goods) and ‘dry’ shipper (liquid nitrogen is absorbed leaving no free liquid nitrogen) are used for the transport of frozen semen around New Zealand. Semen can either be air freighted airport-airport for same day delivery or overnight using New Zealand couriers for a more economical mode of transport. We ask that you contact us well in advance of the semen being required, so that we are able to co-ordinate tanks to meet your requirements. The beauty of frozen semen is that there shouldn’t be any last minute semen emergencies, as semen is able to be transported to your chosen destination for short term storage prior to the mare requiring insemination.

Storage

MVS offers long term semen storage to clients at our MPI-approved semen storage facility in Matamata. We are able to store semen for domestic use, or where applicable are able to meet quarantine requirements for imported semen meeting eligibility criteria for re-exportation of frozen semen.

We are happy to liaise with international stallion owners to import, store and distribute frozen semen on your behalf. No semen is transferred from our facility without written permission from the semen owner. Our semen request form (link) can be found on our forms and information page.
