CONSULTATIONS
Consultations are made by appointment only.
In emergencies and unforeseen circumstances where you are unable to make an appointment, we will accommodate you by admitting your pet. A nurse will assess your pet and a vet will examine them as soon as possible (or immediately in life-threatening situations).
Our consulting hours are:
Monday 8.00am – 5.00pm
Tuesday 8.00am – 5.00pm
Wednesday 8.00am – 5.00pm
Thursday 8.00am – 5.00pm
Friday 8.00am – 5.00pm
Saturday 8.30am – 12pm
In the interest of safety, all dogs are to be on leads and all cats are to be in cat boxes or cages. We can provide cat cages for loan if you do not have one.
If you have an emergency outside of our business hours, please phone Bay After Hours Veterinary Hospital on 0800 Bayvets, 0800 229 8387
Payment is to be made at the time of the consultation, unless prior arrangement has been made. Please note that in an emergency, we will provide first aid treatment for your pet.
ANNUAL PET HEALTH CHECKS
These appointments include a review of previous history, a thorough physical examination, an update on preventative programs including vaccination, parasite control, feeding, dental care and general healthcare advice.
VACCINATION PROTOCOLS
To provide the best advice about vaccinating your pets we use the World Small Animal Veterinary Association vaccination guidelines to assess the needs for each and every pet we see. These guidelines assess the risk of each animal and the duration of effect of the vaccination to tailor a vaccination plan. http:///www.wsava.org/guidelines/vaccination-guidelines
GERIATRIC HEALTH CHECKS
As pets age, their need for regular check ups increase. We recommend check ups every 6 months for pets aged 8 years and older.
OUTPATIENT TREATMENT & MONITORING
We provide ongoing treatment and monitoring for a range of injuries and illnesses including skin conditions, epilepsy, diabetes, heart and kidney failure. We also provide services for cancer patients and those with endocrine diseases including hypo/hyperthyroidism.
HOSPITALISATION/IN-PATIENT TREATMENT
Some illnesses and injuries require your pet to be hospitalised for appropriate treatment and diagnostic testing. We have a separate cat and dog ward with roomy, comfortable cages and underfloor heating.
There is a dedicated hospital nurse to oversee your pet’s needs and treatments.
We have three fluid pumps, a fluid-line heater, oxygen cases and heated bedding should the need arise.
We have a separate isolation unit for any pets with infectious illnesses.
MICROCHIPPING
All our vets are able to microchip animals and have access to NZ and Australian Companion Animal databases.
Microchipping is a quick and easy procedure that can be done in an outpatient consult.
NAIL TRIMS
Our nurses can be booked for pet nail trims at designated times during the day.
