Surgery and general anaesthesia have progressed significantly in modern times and are now not something to be worried about. With investment in modern medicines, equipment and training, surgical procedures are safe, successful and comfortable. We invest heavily to ensure this happens.

Our patients are assessed prior to anaesthesia and a pre-anaesthetic blood screening is recommended so we can tailor the anaesthesia to best suit the patient. A pre-anaesthetic mild sedation is given so that when pets are fully anaesthetised they are calm and relaxed. An injectable induction agent is used to anaesthetise your pet and then we use Isoflurane gas with a Humpreys ADE-circle breathing system throughout the procedure.

We have a separate operating theatre dedicated to sterile surgery. Prior to any operation, pets are surgically prepped and surgeons are gowns and gloved to ensure a highly sterile environment for procedures such as orthopaedics, or soft tissue surgeries. Pulse oximetry (heart rate and blood oxygenation) and respiratory monitors are standard, with Doppler blood pressure in our more complex procedures.

Patients have individually tailored Pain Management Programs and are assigned a veterinary nurse to ensure they are comfortable at all times.

Our surgical team has a breadth of experience and are well equipped to perform a range of routine and advanced surgical procedures including:

  • Eye surgery
  • Ear, Nose and Throat
  • Plastic surgery
  • Cancer surgery
  • Abdominal surgery
  • Orthopaedic surgery
  • Urinary and reproductive tract surgery

We have available in-house the services of a referral Orthopaedic Surgeon for both complex orthopaedic procedures and also neurosurgery.
