Princess Kyoto scores valuable stakes victory
February 24, 2014
Kelly Myers might have missed the winning Group One ride on Nashville at Otaki, but quickly put that disappointment aside to show her wares with a well-timed ride aboard Princess Kyoto, taking out the Listed Marks Ewen & Associates Kaimai Stakes (2000m) at Matamata on Saturday.
In a truly run affair, the $30-chance finished over the top of her rivals to down Breaking Dawn and Powerplaya.
“She’s just below the top stayers but she’s got a good finish on her,” said Myers. “I wasn’t surprised by the way she won today.”
Bred by John O’Flaherty and raced with his partner, trainer Jan McGiven, Princess Kyoto is now the winner of four of her 30 starts and more importantly a black-type winner. The daughter of Shinko King had scored impressively when winning the Taupo Cup two starts back in a very similar fashion.
