Equine Internship – New Zealand
November 7, 2013
Matamata Veterinary Services is seeking applicants for our equine internship programme. Positions available for both 6 and 12-month fixed terms.
Our interns work as part of our greater equine team, based at our purpose-built equine hospital. This team consists of 20 equine veterinarians, supported by eight nurses, two stable staff and four office staff.
The internship position is primarily hospital based; however, an ambulatory component is available during the off season (Jan-July) for interns in the 12 month fixed-term positions. Caseload is high and varied, including medicine, surgery, anaesthesia, reproduction, lameness and bloodstock sales work. You will have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced group of equine practitioners with a wide range of skills, including two board-certified surgeons and a board-certified theriogenologist. This is a well-established, long-standing internship. Every year we seek to improve the quality of our interns’ experience and we believe that the mentorship the program provides, both in a structured capacity and in day to day clinical learning, is essential for providing a quality experience.
Our practice culture is one of quality service to the client, dedicated care of the patient and teamwork. Active clinical research programs are also on-going, and there is opportunity for involvement of interns that have an interest (this applies to the 12-month fixed-term contracts only).
The internship is suited to a new or recent graduate that wishes to rapidly advance their equine skills, or to older graduates with mixed animal experience that want to broaden their general equine skill set. Preference will be given to applicants who are eligible for registration with the NZ Veterinary Council. Applications should include a cover letter and a CV including the names of two referees.
