Having more than 3% or more of cows go down?
Or just having more than you are happy with? We can help
With the recent changes in weather and the start of the second round, we are approaching another risk period for cows to go down. With pasture composition changing now is a crucial point to re-assess if your plan has been working.
A lot of the discussion about down cows revolves around treating them once they have gone down. Whilst this is important, more emphasis should be placed on what management practices we can implement to stop them from going down in the first place.
Unfortunately, there is no hard and fast rule that applies to all farms, but that doesn’t mean changes at the individual farm level wont work. From supplementing with magnesium, gypsum, DCP, limeflour for the milkers, to giving calcium boluses and spring cow management, we can find something that works for you.
So if cows are going down and you are left scratching your head give us a call and we can help you get to the bottom of it.
