Recent diagnosis of tick born disease

May 6, 2013

We have recently diagnosed a tick born disease called Theileria in several cattle on a farm.

This farm has had an issue with ticks for the last few years. Theileria is a parasite which can be carried by ticks. It attaches to red blood cells and can cause a profound anaemia in some cases. Severe cases may require a blood transfusion and may abort.

Alerting symptoms include listlessness, loss of appetite, poor exercise tolerance and anaemia (pale mucous membranes).

If you have experienced ticks on your cattle and have animals exhibiting these symptoms, contact us as soon as possible
