Latest Facial Eczema Spore Count Results 30.4.21

April 30, 2021

Grass samples tested this week from the MVS Monitor Farms have shown the following:
  • Hinuera Monitor Paddocks – 10,000 spores/gram
  • Matamata Monitor Paddocks – 11,600 spores/gram
  • Te Poi Monitor Paddocks – 1,600 spores/gram
  • Tirau Monitor Paddocks –  no samples tested this week
  • Walton Monitor Paddocks – 21,600 spores/gram

This week we have seen spore counts continue to hold with some monitor farms showing moderate to low risk. If you do not have spore counts for your property we recommend that you continue to supplement stock with zinc.

Note that for spore multiplication to slow the temperature must remain under 12 degrees C for an extended period.

We anticipate these counts to continue to decline in the coming week as the cooler weather rolls in.

Remember that spore counts vary from farm to farm and the only way to know your risk to check your grass for spores.
