Infertility Work Up

There are many causes of sub or infertility in mares. Accurate diagnosis of the problem is of great importance for successful management or treatment. Factors such as age, foaling history, systemic disease, and disease and/or infection of the reproductive tract play an important role in the work up of infertility issues or pregnancy loss in the mare.

We will thoroughly assess the mare’s history you can provide us with, followed by an examination of the mare’s external genitalia and reproductive tract. Further diagnostics are very mare specific and depend on your mare’s problem, these may include: endometrial cytology, culture and biopsy and hysteroscopy (endoscopic examination of the uterus). Where needed our surgical team will be consulted for surgical solutions for problems. The most suitable treatment and management for the horse will be discussed with you, including the expected costs and outcomes so there are no unexpected invoices.
