Check at-risk cows now
August 28, 2012
At-risk cows are cows that have suffered any one of the following animal health problems over spring:
1. Assisted or difficult calving
2. Retained Foetal Membrane
3. Metabolic Disease
4. Induced
5. Have had a dead calf
6. Smelly discharge
These cows have a greater chance of developing chronic post-calving uterine infections – endometritis
Cows with endometritis at calving have reduced fertility and are at greater risk of poor reproductive performance
Recent changes in the regulations around induction mean we need to take a more proactive approach to maximise cow fertility
We recommend you identify these cows now and phone us for an appointment to get them checked and treated as soon as possible
