Spore counts set new record at MVS

Spore count results for grass samples brought into the clinic for testing this week are as follows:

• Hinuera West – 85,000 (high) on 10.03.2016
• Hopkins Road – 35,000, 55,000, 70,000 and 210,000 (high) on 10.03.2016
• Matamata – 2,530,000 (high) on 10.03.2016
• Okauia – 5,000 (low) on 11.03.2016
• Peria – 510,000 (high) on 10.03.2016
• Puketutu – 10,000, 75,000 and 130,000 (high) on 08.03.2016
• Richmond Downs – 375,000 and 465,000 (high) on 07.03.2016
• Te Poi – 65,000 (high) on 08.03.2016
• Turanga-o-moana – 60,000 (high) on 11.03.2016
• Tirau – 215,000, 755,000 and 3,860,000 (high) on 07.03.2016

Many bulleted animals may be due to have their second bolus shortly.

Be aware that with extremely high spore counts, zinc may not always give 100% protection from Facial Eczema even at full recommended dose rates. We can check your zinc levels in bloods to ensure your cows are getting the full dose.

Check your maths and add flavouring to water to try to encourage your animals to get adequate intakes.
