Latest Spore Count Results

February 28, 2020

Grass samples tested this week from the MVS Monitor Farms have shown the following:

  • Hinuera Monitor Paddocks – 6,600 spores/gram
  • Matamata Monitor Paddocks –  5,000 spores/gram
  • Te Poi Monitor Paddocks –  10,000 spores/gram
  • Tirau Monitor Paddocks –   8,333 spores/gram
  • Walton Monitor Paddocks –   5,000 spores/grams

Trends on monitor farms continue to stay low as expected with the continued dry weather conditions. A number of samples submitted from non-monitor farms also showed low counts. However counts published for this week by Gribbles Laboratory from farms in Matamata have seen counts as high as 32,000spores/gram. This reinforces that while monitor farms provide trend data and give an indication of possible risk, counts can vary considerably from farm to farm.

Do remember you are always able to bring in your own grass samples for MVS to check if you have any concerns.
